Monday Morning Quarterback

Wow, it's Monday morning. Are these great? I have a lot to discuss and also a new sense of blog motivation with more and more people reading my blogs. I really thought that only Heath, my intern, and my mom read these things. But apparently there are 6 or 7 others of you who are checking in. So, let's get to my Monday morning comments:

- The LSU Tigers are not only the SEC Champs but are playing for the BCS Championship! Sorry Georgia fans. Apparently, it does help to win your conference championship in order to play for the national title. I still think Georgia is one of the best teams in the nation and winning the BCS Championship doesn't necessarily mean your are the best college football team. (Can you see me politicking here? More to come...) The good news for LSU is that they have 5 weeks to get healthy and Lou Holtz is picking LSU to lose. So, I'm feeling pretty good about this one being played in LSU's backyard. Joelan is wanting so badly to go to the game! I will take him if someone throws some tickets my way (hint hint). See previous blog for a picture of Joelan's LSU enthusiasm.

-My sermon yesterday caused quite an uproar. I had 4 or 5 AMENS in the 11:00 service but one of them was for Georgia (Go Dawgs!) and the other from a single girl (I will keep her anonymous) who was excited that I was no longer talking about sex in my sermons. Apparently (I've used this word three times already), my comments about Dog the Bounty Hunter were a little controversial. Apparently, Dog has been suspended from the air for making racial slurs about his son's girlfriend. Let me just say that I do not condone Dog's racial slurs. I also do not agree with everything that Dog says and does. I do think that it is funny that he has the biggest blond mullet that you have ever seen. And also when he uses cuss words while chasing down the bad guys, and then when he catches them, he tells them about Jesus. Dog is a good example of the point that I was making that different people have different views of Jesus. I'm sure that Dog's theology of the 2nd Person of the Trinity is a little skewed. Also, I do not endorse the shows "South Park" or "The Simpsons". I simply mentioned that Jesus had made appearances (in the form of a cartoon character) on these shows. Also, I do not think it is wrong to wear a "Jesus is my Homeboy" T-shirt. Although, apparently, the T-shirts are controversial in some circles. And just to be clear, I do not endorse the movie "Jesus Christ Vampire Slayer".

- Wow, I feel more like a politician than a pastor. I didn't think I could get in so much trouble preaching about JESUS. But as I said yesterday, Jesus Christ is very controversial. And let's not lose the message of the sermon: Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and He is the reason that we celebrate Christmas. Let's keep JESUS at the center of our Christmas season.

That's enough Monday Morning Quarterbacking for now. I have 19,000 emails to return. Check back in a few days and I will update you on MY "Body by God" and how I am going Clark W. Griswold this year with my Christmas decorations.
