Daily Bible Reading: Ruth

Yesterday, in our 2008 Daily Bible Reading Plan, I read the OT Book of Ruth. Ruth is a great story of someone who was faithful to God in the good times and the bad. Ruth lost her husband after 10 years of marriage and decided to stay faithful to her mother-in-law, Naomi, and to her God. This verse is often misquoted in weddings as a commitment between a husband and wife, but it was really a commitment from a daughter-in-law to her mother-in-law. This may give us some insights into the total commitment of the marriage relationship. There is a joke in here somewhere, but I'm just not sure how to phrase it. I have to be careful, because I have a mother-in-law who reads my blogs.

Anyway, Ruth decides to stay faithful to Naomi and God. And because of her faithfulness to God, she remarries Boaz, has a son, and becomes the great grandmother of David. Ruth becomes an integral part of the family tree/genealogy of Abraham, David and of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
