ABC's of the Christian Journey

Becoming a Christian is not the end of our spiritual journey but actually the starting point. At Graystone Church over the last 2 months, 76 people have been baptized and made a public profession of their faith in Jesus Christ. PRAISE GOD! My desire for each of them is to grow strong in their relationship with Christ and walk with God for a lifetime. My hope for all of us is that we would never be satisfied with where we are spiritually but would continue to press on towards the upward call of Christ Jesus.

Here are the ABC's of the Christian Journey:

1. Accept Christ (Romans 10:9-13; Ephesians 2:8-9; 2 Corinthians 5:17)

2. Be Baptized (Acts 2:36-38; Matthew 3:16; Acts 8:38-39; Romans 6:4)

3. Commit to become like Christ (Romans 8:29; Philippians 2:5; Romans 12:2)

Becoming a Christian is the one-time act of salvation (justification) and the daily process of becoming more like Jesus Christ (sanctification). I will be talking more in the next couple of days about practical ways that we can grow spiritually and train for the prize. One of those ways is to develop Christ-like character.
According to Ephesians 4:22-24, we are to put off the old sinful self and put on the new self that is created in Christ Jesus.

What are some characteristics of your old sinful nature that you need to put off?

What are some of the character qualities of Christ that you need to put on?

After you identify and write these good and bad qualities down, spend some time praying that God will give you the strength to deal with sin and clothe yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ.

PS Last night, we took Jesslyn to her first Braves game. She loved it and had no idea that the Braves lost.

"putting away" the old self can seem difficult, since that is how we are familiar to living. It's not until we put on the "new self" that we realize what we were missing before! It is a new life, a better life!

Eternal life is not simply living forever, it is living the highest quality of life (John 10:10) that God has for us.
