The disciples did not ask Jesus to teach them to heal people. They asked him to teach them to pray. My prayer is that yesterday's service at Graystone was only the beginning of us learning how to pray. We grew closer as a family yesterday by carrying one another's burdens and praying for each other.
How many times do you tell someone that you will pray for them, then you don't? Let's take prayer to the next level and truly pray for each other. In your personal prayers, let me encourage you to do two things:
1. Pray out loud or write down your prayers in a journal...there is power in the physical act of writing them down or saying them out loud.
2. Get on your knees when you pray...this demonstrates humility and dependence on God. Again, a physical act of placing faith in God.
Lord, teach us to pray:
(Jesus said) 9"This, then, is how you should pray: " 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.' 14For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." Matthew 6:9-15
Here is a practical model for prayer based on The Lord's Prayer:
P. R. A. Y.
P raise “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name”
R epent “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.”
A sk “Give us today our daily bread.”
Y ield “'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. “
Trusting God in the power of prayer,
Johnny
