A Litttle Insight into Jim Hollandsworth

I sent Jim an email asking him if he was related to an 11 year old kid, Matthew Hollingsworth, who is trying out in our baseball league. This is Jim's response:

"no - our name is spelled Hollandsworth, not Hollingsworth, so we're not related, but truth is, we probably are. You see, both names comes from the Old English name Hollin(s)worth that originated in Northern England in the mid 1300's. THe family name spread and as settlers came to North America, the spelling was changed for several reasons - mostly due to the fact that people were illiterate and didn't know how to spell their name, so other people spelled it for them - that's where the differences in spelling come from. If we did a DNA test, chances are that we would be related, but most Hollandsworths/Hollingsworths were originally in Virginia and have since migrated mostly to Tennessee/Kentucky area (which is where my dad's family is from). I could go on with more info if you'd like? I love talking about this stuff, so if you want to continue the conversation, just let me know."

My blog posts have been a little random today. Wait until next Friday.

You got me on this one. Now everyone who reads this blog knows that I'm a nerd. Oh well, I don't care. In fact, I'm proud to be a nerd. I do have one question though - did you think our name was spelled Hollingsworth, or did you think that people can be related whose last names have similar spellings (i.e. Jonathan Howes and Gregory House - from the TV show)? That's one to ponder there.

Jim

PS - Anyone out there who is interested in your family's genealogy, just let me know. I charge by the hour.

Jim,
You know that I am not a details guys. I looked at the draft list of over 100 kids. I saw Hollingsworth and read it as Hollandsworth. I was going to try and get him on my team if he was related to you. Two reasons: 1. You come from a great family 2. Your brothers are stud athletes.
You know that I'm just giving you a hard time.
I love you bro!

Dr. House,

I know you were just giving me a hard time. The purpose of my email was giving you a hard time for seriously asking that question. But, after seeing your explanation it makes total sense - my brothers being great athletes and all. We all know Heath was on the inaugural 8th grade basketball team at McConnell Middle School. I can't remember what their record was though?

You know what the really funny thing is about looking at this blog post and the comments:

original blog post - Friday night at 7:48pm
first anonymous comment - Friday night at 8:18pm
my first comment - Friday night at 8:33pm

The sad thing is that Melinda and I had been out to dinner (at Ted's), and a little shopping (at Barnes and Noble - pretty appropriate, huh?) and were home by 7:45. I guess I really am a nerd.

Have a great Saturday and we'll see you tomorrow morning.

Jim

PS - I deleted this post originally because of grammatical errors - there was a sentence fragment.

Jim,
I'm not sure why you and I are talking through my blog comments, but being a nerd is a good thing. There is a big difference between a nerd and a geek. Nerds are smart and end up being everyone's boss. I want my kids to be nerds. If my kids grow up to be like you, I will be a grateful dad.
