Last night, Joelan went with one of his buddies to the "Youth Group" Christmas Party at Annistown Road Baptist Church. He had a blast. He came home bouncing off the walls with a big smile on his face. He said, "Look what I won!" He won a door prize drawing that was a small bag of candy and a $10 itunes gift card. He said that when the Youth Pastor, his buddy Landon's dad, called out his number, he jumped up, did a Tiger Woods fist pump (BTW, this is my first mention of Tiger Woods in 3 weeks on Johnny's Blog. I have refrained myself.), and chest bumped one of his friends. I asked him if he was glad that he went, and he said, "I wouldn't be eating these bad boys if I didn't." He was referring to a small tube of mini M&M's. BTW, it appears that every kid at the party walked out with some type of gift from the drawing.
I thought to myself, "Man is that kid easily awed." (I guess you put quotes around personal thoughts?) All it took was a handful of candy coated chocolate and a $10 itunes gift card and Joelan was "king of the world". Sometimes, I think all of us get too easily awed with the small things in life that we miss the GREAT THINGS. I am certainly not advocating that we shouldn't celebrate the little victories of life (I.e. catching all 10 traffic lights green on the way to work). But there are times in our lives when we need to STOP...close the laptop/turn off the TV/shut off the phone...get alone...go outside...look up into the sky on a clear night and realize the incredible beauty and wonder of God and his creation.
This Christmas season let me encourage you to be awed by the GREAT THINGS of God: the virgin birth... a perfect life...an atoning sacrifice for our sins...the resurrection...victory over sin, death, and hell...eternal life for all who believe.
This Christmas, let us be AWED by the GREAT THINGS of God as we celebrate the birth of Jesus our KING!
