Once a year we decorate our houses from head to toe
with a tree, stockings and mistle toe
On the outside we string up lights and more
and our neighbors try to even the score
There’s talk of the North Pole and elves on the go
and Rudolph pulling Santa as he says Ho! Ho! Ho!
After Thanksgiving the shopping begins
and the husband thinks it will never end
The kids make their list and check it twice
but with Santa they’re never really rolling the dice
this year its Barbies, cell phones and X Box
They must be watching those commercials on Fox
The wife never wants you to buy her too much
just clothes, perfume, diamonds and such!
And what to get for that special guy
a gift certificate from Best Buy
They have DVD’s, surround sound, and big screens.
Then he can build the home theatre of his dreams
We attend parties and do the holiday thing
at White Elephant we’re not sure what to bring
The TV is filled with Classic shows to see
some really good movies that bring the Christmas glee
Like Christmas Vacation, Its a Wonderful Life, and Home Alone
and ESPN’s college bowl week really is fun.
It’s time for our extended families to come together
to eat a lot of food and talk about the weather
What’s the meaning of Christmas after all
It must be more than a leftover cheese ball
Christmas is the celebration of Jesus’ birth
how he came from heaven to grace the earth
born in a manger cushioned with straw
Our God who came to save us all.
