Church Marquee Signs

One of the things that I notice when I drive down the road is church marquee signs. The kids and I were in the car the other day and saw a really cheesy one...99% of the saying on these signs are either cheesy or obnoxious. There must be a book of "sayings for church marquee signs". I'm not sure where they come up with some of these messages. Maybe one day I can write a blog about my Top 10 Favorite Cheesy Marquee Church Signs. Joelan wants Graystone to get one of these signs really bad. Julia said that the message she would put on the sign is, "God bless our troops!" Now, that would be cool but I kind of doubt Graystone will ever get one of these signs.

Anyway, I was driving home late last night after a make-up ALTA Tennis Match and I saw a digital church sign. Now, that's pretty "high-tech" and taking church marquees to the new millennium. I liked this sign. It simply read, "Isaiah 53:5 By His stripes we are healed." Wow! That verse will make you stop dead in your tracks. I thought about that verse all the way home. It is such a graphic, powerful verse. It caused me to think about the 39 lashes that Jesus received before he carried the cross down the road to Calvary. I'm not sure how many of you saw Mel Gibson movie, "The Passion of the Christ", but during this scene I started crying my eyes out and had to walk out of the movie theater. I really do not think that we can fully comprehend all that Christ went through for our sins. He took the penalty of all of ours sins (and the wrath of God) upon his body for us. He truly is "My Sacrifice" that we will be talking about on Easter Sunday.

Let me encourage you this week as we lead up to Easter Sunday to meditate on Christ-crucified and thank Jesus for His sacrifice for us. By His stripes we truly are healed.

A great sign just like your church marquee was placed at Hotchkiss K-8 school. Hotchkiss K-8 school in Hotchkiss Colorado began investigating the purchase of a new electronic LED school marquee system in December of 2006. Kristen Husted was elected as the president of the electronic LED marquee sub-committee. Lindee Cantrell was heavily involved in the design ideas and coordination as the vice president. Husted contacted several local and national sign companies to search for the best design, customer service, and price. She found all three with Golden Rule Sign Company.

After several revisions she had settled on an eye-catching, unique design for the new Hotchkiss sign. Fundraising for the project was intensive as Husted went from business to business. Donors included First State Bank, Delta County Memorial Hospital, Wal-Mart, and Bowie Resources as well as many local businesses and organizations. Golden Rule Sign Company was able to build a double sided electronic LED sign with custom lettering and sponsor panels. The sign is able to show graphics and animations in addition to standard 4 lines of text. The electronic LED school marquee was delivered and then installed by local community members. Their work was complete. Cantrell’s comments were ”We finally did it. It’s up. It’s running and it looks awesome!”
