I have been studying Hebrews chapter 4 all morning. Hebrews is NOT one of those books that you simply read a chapter and say, "Got it!" It causes you to think, study and try to figure it out. Some might call Hebrews "Deep". What is it really to be "Spiritually Deep"? Well, I have some strong opinions here, but that's another topic for another day. Anyway, I have read Hebrews 4:1-11 in the NKJV, NIV, and NLT several times. I have cross referenced Psalm 95. I have read various commentaries and study Bible notes. In the passage, there is a promise of rest for God's people. But, what type of rest is the passage referring to? Here is a multiple choice question for you:
Is the promise of rest for God's people in Hebrews 4:1-11 referring to:
A. Rest from physical labor (work)
B. Internal peace and comfort
C. Observing the Sabbath Day
D. Salvation in Heaven
E. All of the Above
Here is the "and More" portion of my blog:
I thought yesterday's service at Graystone was awesome.
A few highlights:
- Jim speaking. Great challenge to "connect" and "care for one another".
- Me having a Sunday off from speaking (get ready for next Sunday...I have two weeks built up in me).
- Parking Team...It was incredible seeing all those guys "step up to the plate" and fill a big need at Graystone.
- Coach Mark Azar bringing his entire GGBL Grayson Lookout Baseball Team and Assistant Coaches to church in a limo. Way to step it up Mark and set the pace for the other coaches. I'm going to go ahead and WARN YOU now. Jersey Day (April 27) is going to be a zoo and we will truly experience the "packed house" of Mark 2. (I.e. remember the 4:30 Christmas Eve Service)
- There were youth everywhere. Did anyone else notice how many Middle School and High School kids were at church yesterday?
- "Clone Your Pastor" video...I'm not saying it was a highlight because I like seeing myself in 15 different "outfits". I'm still amazed at how they had two of me on the same screen talking to myself. The Life is My Movie guys are AWESOME, and I really appreciate all their hard work with the videos for our CALLED series. As far as acting goes, I thought Josh Johnson stole the show.
- Worship music was great as usual, and it was good to see Kyle up there not coughing up a lung.
- Newcomers Lunch...we had a big turn out and several folks already turned in their membership forms: Daniel and Dena Wood, Chris and Jennifer Cassidy, David and Danielle Wright (not the NY Mets baseball player), and Kyle Williams (not the 3rd baseman on Joelan's 11-12 year old team). Please try to be there 1st Wednesday to welcome our new members and experience a great time of worship and observing the Lord's Supper. By the way, I think Kyle said that he would shave his head completely bald if we packed out the First Wednesday service.
A couple more items...
The Wojtczak-Dudish Wedding was beautiful. I love the brown tuxes with the sweet vests. If I was a groomsman, I would have worn my tux to church on Sunday. I wonder what those brown tuxes and dresses will look like in the wedding pictures 20 years from now? I also thought replacing the Unity Candle with the sand art was creative. And I loved them marching out to "The Last of the Mohicans" theme song. Is Wojtczak part American-Indian? Is he the last of the Mohicans?
