I woke up crying this morning. I wish I could tell you that I am standing strong like an oak and that my faith is solid as a rock. But I can't. To be completely honest, I am struggling.
I really do not understand HOW Matt Harvie (a 41 year old who is a GREAT athlete in GOOD shape) could fall off of a golf cart and land on his head so severely that it would put him in a coma. I really do not understand WHY God would allow this to happen to someone who loves Him and has a beautiful Proverbs 31 wife and 5 incredibly awesome kids. I'm not really sure why it had to happen at the beginning of the 3rd Annual Graystone Golf Classic. I am thankful that I was able to be there for his son, Ian, and his family. Although, I have not been the emotionally strong "pastor". The staff and members of Grace Fellowship Church are showing tremendous love and support for Matt and his family.
But here is what I do know. God is sovereign. He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. He is not simply the God of yesterday, the God of today or the God of tomorrow, but he is the God of all eternity. He is in control of all things. This tragedy did not happen outside of his will. We know that God works out all things for the good of those who love Him who have been called according to his will. God is a miracle worker. God is good all the time and all the time God is good.
Please continue to pray for Matt Harvie. Please pray for his wife, Kellie. Please pray for his parents who drove from Arkansas the moment they heard the news. Please pray for his 5 kids: Ian (17), Elli (16), Alex (15), Emily (13) and Matt (12). Please pray for me. Please pray that I can pull it together emotionally (if I need to).

Jonathan -- you as well as Matt Harvie and his family are in my prayers. Why?? was one of the first things I asked God, but trust that his master plan always works for the good of those who love and trust Him. PSALM 34:18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those who are crushed in spirit.

I've decided to wake up at 2am to pray for Matt and his family. They have been good friends of ours for many years. The very least that I can do is pray.
Why is it the least? Why is prayer the only thing that some people can be involved in to affect change in others?
I don't believe that I am changing God by praying. But God is changing something, maybe just me... maybe Matt and his family too.

Those are beautiful words Jonathan and I just want to correct you on one thing. It may not be your strength that has poured out of you but we have felt the strength of your love for Matt and our family very strongly. We love you all, and we are so grateful for all your prayers and visits and support!!
Love,Kelly Harvie
I haven’t stop thinking of Matt and his family since I heard the news. I don’t understand how something tragic could happen to such an awesome man, husband and father. As a co worker I can say that Matt is in the prayers of his customers and coworkers from Salem NH and across the country. Get well soon bud!!
