"Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life." 1 Timothy 6:18-19
You will not experience "life that is truly life" until you are aligned with God and doing what it is that He has called you to do. This past Sunday, the content of my sermon came from Bill Hybels' book, Holy Discontent. Bill says that their is a "firestorm of frustration" inside of all of us that God has placed in our hearts. We have a "holy discontent" with a wrong that needs to be made right. Once you find your "holy discontent", it consumes your thoughts and prayers. The results of someone finding their "holy discontent" could lead to several things: adopting a child, coaching, teaching, starting a school, getting involved in politics, community service, starting a ministry, joining the military, changing careers, etc.
You are not truly living until you are doing what it is that you are supposed to do. Everyone wants their life to count...to make a difference in this world and for eternity. Many people struggle with their calling in life and finding God's unique purpose for them. That's what this "holy discontent" is all about. Another way of looking at it is...what are you passionate about? What makes you jump up and down? What makes you pound the table?
So, are you fulfilling God's unique purpose for your life? Are you doing what it is that He called you to do? Are you experiencing "life that is truly life"? If not, what is holding you back?
