The first Sunday in the new building was a very special day for me in many ways. I have said this before but leading the way to build this building is the most challenging task I have ever accomplished in ministry. Thankfully, it was a total team effort.
One of the things that made Sunday so special was that several friends showed up simply to support me, my family and Graystone. It was great to see Chris and Linda Stanifer. They were a vital part of Graystone's core team and were very instrumental in us buying the property on Ozora Road. Chris served as an elder and always pushed us to take that next step of faith. He was adamant that 1551 Ozora Road was the piece of property to build Graystone Church. Linda is a prayer warrior and a Proverbs 31 woman. They are now semi-retired and live on Lake Hartwell. Rough life, I guess.
Ashly Hodge flew in from DFW to be here for the BIG DAY. Ashley is a great friend, encourager, and has financially supported Graystone from Day 1. He took Jennifer and I out to Fogo De Chao on Monday night to celebrate. I'm still FULL.
One of coolest things of the entire day was that there were 6 guys (plus their families) at Graystone Sunday that used to live in the same hall in the football dorm (Row Hall) at West Georgia College. When they played college football 17-18 years ago, I had the privilege of leading their football Bible study/discipleship group. I was blown away to see all of them there to support me on Sunday. It is a testimony of their love for God, their love for me and their love for each other. This is actually my topic for this Sunday's message...the world will know that we are Christ's disciples by our love for each other (John 13:34-35).
Also, several family members of our staff team came Sunday as well as many more friends from our community who were there to show their love and support for Graystone. Thank you to all who came! I am humbled and God is good!
