Buy Your Wife Some Flowers!

This morning I sent a mass email to the folks on the Graystone Church Group News List. I know you guys "love" (hear the sarcastic tone in my voice) getting my mass emails. The purpose of this email was to let everyone know of the new message series, CALLED, that is kicking off this Sunday. And by the way, the message this Sunday is incredible (Lord willing). I just preached it to myself in the mirror, and I think my reflection "got saved"? Anyway, the point of the email was to encourage everyone to be at church Sunday and bring a friend. In the P.S. of the email I said, "Happy Valentines Day...buy your wife some flowers!"

OK, the email was not really about Valentines Day but I can already hear the grumblings from the guys about buying their wives/girlfriends/significant others flowers. "My wife doesn't like flowers." "Flowers are a waste of money. They just die." "She told me not to buy her flowers." Listen, if she tells you not to buy her flowers or not to buy her anything, that is code word for: You better get out there and buy her something nice. The whole point of buying flowers is that they will die soon. And you love her so much that you are willing to buy her flowers even though you are a cheapskate, and they will die in a couple of days. Husbands, buy your wife some flowers! "I already bought her something else." It doesn't matter. It is still Valentines Day and you need to buy her some flowers!

And let me close with a word of warning to the young husbands. Be careful not to do too much too soon. Because, you will find yourself each year trying to outdo yourself from the previous year. If you do too much too soon, you will raise the bar too high to jump over the next year. Once you move from candy to flowers to jewelry to spas to out of town trips to Lexus cars with big red bows, there is no turning back. Just be smart, play it cool, and buy your wife some flowers!

P.S. It would also be a good idea to clean the kitchen and load the dish washer.
